Legacy of a Legend
Bill Duke was just selected to have his star placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is part of the Class of 2024. If you don't know who he is, Bill Duke has an acting career that started in 1972; a directing career dating back to 1978 (with the tv show Dallas believe it or not); and a production career beginning with his 1997 movie Hoodlum (a personal favorite).
The criteria for acceptance is nomination as follows:
"The criteria for receiving a star consist of the following: professional achievement, longevity in the category of five years or more, contributions to the community, and the guarantee that the celebrity will attend the dedication ceremony if selected."
This occasion represents number five for William Henry "Bill" Duke, Jr. Yes, five. The 'Friends of Bill Duke Steering Committee' put together an application consisting of a photo, bio, qualifications, contributions to the community and civic-oriented participation, and finally a letter of agreement from his management company. You have to applaud their persistence in seeing this gentle giant honored for his many contributions to the industry.
I used to be mindblown by the individuals awarded a star considering the depth of their careers and contributions. Now, not so much. This nomination puts things into perspective. It, in no way, diminishes the caliber and magnitude of Bill Duke's amazing career and accomplishments. If you are inclined to celebrate this brilliant human being, consider watching one of his films or shows here.
Congratulations Mr. Duke!
Signed,
The Angry Blk Wmn
